Come in contact with another way of living. Visit a tribe and experience a totally different culture and aspect of life.

Tanzania is home to more than 120 different tribes, most of them belonging to the big Bantu family. The fierce Masai are Nilotic people.

The Hadzabe tribe, living along the remote shores of Lake Eyasi, is related to the South African bushmen. They also have a similar ‘click’ language. As hunters/gatherers, they live a very primitive nomadic life.

The Datoga tribe, a nomadic tribe of cattle herdsmen. Their territory borders Masai land, and conflicts sometimes occur.

The Masai tribe is probably the most interesting tribe in East Africa. These proud people refuse to give up their own traditions. The tribe occupies a territory covering vast areas in southern Kenya and northern Tanzania. They are nomadic herdsmen and warriors, feared by neighbouring tribes.

In Kenya there are 42 tribes each one with its onw rich culture and heritage. The most famous are the Maasai and the Samburu people because of their long preserved culture. The indigenous tribes of Kenya are formed by three ethnic groups, the Bantus, the Cushites and the Nilotes.

Modern civilization, education and influence of outside cultures is leading to an erosion and banning of some customs and cultures of the tribes. In the recent years, laws have forbitten customs such as female circumcision which was popular among the Maasai and Kisii tribes showing more respect to womens’ dignity and rights.

On the other hand, there are many habits and traditions that are still well kept and hopefully this will be succesfully preserved at the future to come.
